Luiz Suarez transfers to Barcelona, who hurts more Liverpool FC or the Barclay’s Premier League

By Lloyd Martin Jr

Disclaimer: I am a true Liverpool FC fan and have been so for quite a few years, however as always I will do my best to remain objective.

lfc gold crestIt is official, the day that Liverpool fans have been dreading since the start of the 2013/2014 Barclays Premier League season (B.P.L); the monument of a man that is Luis Suarez (L.S) has transferred from Liverpool Football Club (L.F.C) to Football Club Barcelona (F.C.B). he has join the ranks of legendary #LFC players such as Billy Liddell, Kevin Keegan, Kenny Dalglish, Steve Mcmanaman, to wear #7 jersey, all of which share one thing in common and that is immaculate goal scoring ability. While this news breaks my heart I can’t help but think that the biggest lose in this situation is not #LFC but the #BPL as a whole.

At this point in time all the news outlets across the globe are jumping over each other to publish a noteworthy article about Luis Suarez and his sometimes turbulent yet astronomically brilliant time spent at #LFC. From the Merseyside based team this man and his insatiable appetite to win has been able to transfix the world’s attention every Saturday or Sunday morning on his unique football skills, ability and absolute brilliance. Scoring a whopping 82 goals in just 133 appearances is no easy feat in the world’s most competitive league and in the process the becoming one of the most complete strikers the #BPL has ever seen.

A Master plan unfolds…

People say that hindsight is 20/20 and now that I have had the opportunity to analyze the situation it has become blatantly clear to that this was all part of a master plan over a year in the works. We all recall his attempt to force a move to Real Madrid during the first transfer window of the 2013/2014 season, which #LFC rightly blocked (that was the obvious part). The not so obvious part was that as soon as #LS realized that no deal would be had he made a complete turnaround in attitude, instantly and became a full team player. Such a drastic and sudden changes in personality is not normal. Once his ban was done he started what was to be his defining season with #LFC racking up goals and assist against mere mortals all the while keeping his nose clean. Not once during the season was he a part of any controversy and for this man that is quite unusual, he simply went about his job in a work man like way. In the process he became the darling ofbaby_evil_genius__1_by_kyrakthepoet-d5j7gu1 the league as well as a favorite of the press all the while drawing new fans to the attacking style of Liverpool FC. I surmise that #LS made a conscious decision that he would do his best to get #LFC into the Champions League (C.L) at which point all debts would have been paid back to the club that stood by him throughout his darkest hours in football, thus clearing the path for him to engineer a move away. Some people have gone as far as to suggest that his last biting incident was simply a chess move to ensure a move would go through. If you buy that #LS is an evil genius then it all makes sense, doesn’t it?

Now back to the show…

#BPL is the biggest loser!

BPL-LogoEvery league needs stars to validate the quality of the league, if you don’t agree let me ask this question, how many of you watch the K-league, A-league, or even the Russian league regularly? Exactly; my point has been made. Every league needs elite players to survive and attract new fans. As an elite striker you must be scoring over 25 goals per season in order to validate such a title. The stats for the recently concluded #BPL season shows that only #LS met and exceeded that target (by the way #LFC monopolized scoring this season). With Rooney off the boil, Van-Persie prone to injury along with Aguero who was out with injury for some time we are left with Daniel Sturridge as the poster boy for the upcoming season. In my honest assessment there is no doubt that Sturridge is a top quality strikers possessing most of the skills required to excel at the top level in the absence of #LS but lacks that je ne sais quoi that would put him into that elite grouping therefore at this time he is not the finished product that a league can market itself around. Then again he can step up to that level in the upcoming season or we could see the emergence or resurgence of other players.

Messi, Suarez, Neymar!?

There can be no doubt that with the addition of #LS to their lineup that #FCB has the most potent strike force in all of Europe. With the frontmessi suarez neymar three of Messi, Suarez and Neymar in the same team all defensive lines across Europe has been put on warning. The mere thought of three of the
world’s most gifted strikers in their prime running at you is enough to make any defender’s knees buckle. The million dollar question on everybody’s lips is; can they function as unit? The answer to that question we will just have to wait and see. What I do know is that both Messi and #LS love the ball at their feet so maybe #FIFA will  have to change the rule to allow the game to be played two footballs at once.

The verdict!

judge-mathis-newsoneI would like to believe that #LFC has gotten the best that #LS has to offer just like we did with Fernando Torres, Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler, John Barnes, Kenny Dalglish but somehow I don’t think that will be the case! I can take solace in the fact is that if it is one thing #LFC knows how do well that is to find and/or develop elite players. For the sake of #BPL they need to do it now…yet again! It has always been the philosophy at #LFC that no one is bigger than the club and that is the reason why Liverpool FC will survive , they have done it before and we will continue to survive and progress.
